This publication:
- Provides technical guidance on the storage and dispensing of petroleum products including petrol, diesel, autogas (also known as LPG) and biofuels (blends of petrol or diesel containing up to 10 % biomass derived component), used as fuels for motor vehicles, primarily at filling stations to which the general public have access.
- Covers civil, mechanical, hydraulic and electrical installation issues for the planning, design, construction, commissioning, modification, maintenance and decommissioning of filling stations.
- Provides information aimed at minimizing the risks from fire and explosion, to safety, health and to the environment.
- Describes good practice and certain legal requirements, particularly those applicable in the UK.
- Is primarily intended to be applicable to both new sites and existing sites that are modified/refurbished. The guidance should also be useful in providing a benchmark to assist the duty-holder to undertake periodic review of their risk assessment(s) required under specific legislation applying to the facilities.
- Provides general principles that may be applicable to other types of installation where fuels are stored and dispensed for non-retail use.
The objectives of this Code are: (a) to establish, maintain and improve building standards; (b) to facilitate the adoption and efficient application of uniform building standards; (c) to facilitate uniform accreditation of building products, construction methods, building designs, building components and building systems; (d) to maintain, enhance and improve the safety, health and amenity of persons using buildings including adequate provisions for persons with disabilities; (e) to promote and provide for the construction of environmentally efficient buildings; (f) to provide an efficient and effective system for granting buildings permits, administering building matters and resolving building disputes; (g) to reform aspects of the law relating to legal liability of regulatory agencies; to facilitate uniformity in the education, training and qualifications of building practitioners and the recognition of qualifications; (h) to facilitate the cost-effective construction of buildings; and (i) to aid the achievement of an efficient and competitive building industry. The provisions of this Code shall come into operation on such dates as are fixed by the Minister by notice in the Gazette.

This Code provides guidance on the use of Guyanese timber species for construction purposes. It includes recommendations on quality, engineering properties and the various design considerations and principles for simple members, build-up components, composite structures and sub-structures incorporating other materials. Requirements and recommendations for sound construction and typical details for residential construction are also included. Further, recommendations for the design of heavy engineered structures, nailed, screwed, and bolted joints are also presented
This Code of Practice specifies the requirements for concrete and block masonry used in structures or buildings.
The term “Steel Structures” relates to structural members and frames which consist primarily of structural steel components, including the detailed parts, welds, bolts or other fasteners required in fabrication and erection. Composition construction, defined as construction which depends upon the participation of structural elements of steel and other materials in resisting loads and forces jointly with structural members, is permitted under this section of the Code. This Code deals with the design and construction of steel buildings which should be carried out mainly in accordance with the recommendations of Part 2, Section 7B “Structural Design Requirements – Structural Steel – Working Stress Design” of the Caribbean Unified Building Code (CUBIC), 1985 The general requirements for construction of light gauge steel framed structures have been derived from recommendations of the Dominican Building Code, while the requirements for the construction of small houses using light steel frame construction have been derived from the Dominican Building Guidelines
This Code specifies guidelines for excavations and foundations for building construction. These include temporary and permanent excavation for foundation, drainage system, utilities – water supply systems, sanitation systems, electrical cabling, etc., reservoirs and swimming pools. This Code shall apply for low and medium rise buildings. Prescriptive methods for timber pile foundations are also considered. Comprehensive design methods involving the application of engineering calculations are not within the scope of this Code.
